28/12/2015:
Nalsarovar-
We start at 7 a.m in the morning.  We are taken to the lake in government cars, from the gate of the bird sanctuary.
Nalsarovar is famous for the nalsarovar bird sanctuary.
The bird sanctuary " nalsarovar" is named  after the king 'nal' & 'sarovar' means lake.  My mother in law tells us that the mahabharat has a mention of the story of king nal and his wife damyanti.
Once we had reached the lake , we saw  boatmen & gathiya sellers on the lake. We bought a packet of gathiya for feeding the birds. We had hired a personal boat for the four of us(In laws,  snehal & me). The boatmen work not only to paddle the boat , but also as guides.
Since we had started the day early,  thus we get to see many birds in the morning.
Black duck which had arrived from China,  rajhans which had come from mansarovar,  pelican,  seagulls big and small,  purple moorhens,  little cormorants,  yellow wagtail (it's a small bird with a yellow chest), jacand,  purple & grey herons & open bill stork.

We click photographs of the birds. The water is not very deep , barely 3-4 feet deep & very clear. We can see the vegetation in the depth of the lake.
We stop at an island for lunch where we have barjri na rotla, baigan bharta, lasan ni chutney served with molasses. There was a watch tower too, for the view of the lake.
We saw the samadhi of nal (most of it is underwater).
Well also had fun feeding the sea gulls gathiya.

Becharaji- the temple of becharaji is on the way to modhera from nalsarovar. We take the goddess' s blessing.

Modhera
I visited the temple for the second time( after seeing a replica in the wonders of the world In schenzen , I had insisted on seeing it). It is a sun temple built to honour the sun god. Every idol has been damaged,  thus it is not worshipped. Except for one idol of kal bhairav which is worshipped nevertheless.
It is built in three parts,  first is a kund with temples built around it on the steps ( it is considered holy to bathe in the presence of 108 gods). Second is a temple like prayer hall built for bhajans. Lastly there is the main temple built for worshipping the sun god.
Since it is a sun temple, it opens with the dawn & closes at dusk.
The temple is built on an inverted lotus.  The prayer hall has 364 elephants & 1 lion carved on the outside representing the 365 days in a year.  The carving on the temple represent scenes from Ramayan & mahabharat. It also has women depicted dressing up with various hair styles & cosmetics. The temple is built exactly on the tropic of cancer.

shankheshwar- we reached shankheshwar in the night
