We hit the turquoise blue waters of the Indian ocean. This time it was Maldives.
We took a midnight flight of Srilankan airways. With a stopover at Colombo, we arrived at Male. From there to get to the resort we had to take a sea plane ride. The flight is the only way to get to the resort. The ride is beautiful and a unique experience with only 10 or so passengers on board. We got to capture the beauty of Maldives with its blue waters, lagoons and atolls.
Our resort is located on Faafu atoll.i.e, Filitheyo resort.
Once the sea plane lands in the middle of the deep ocean, the ferry picks us up from there, & finally we were at the resort.
The resort welcomed us with a welcome drink & a welcome shoulder massage.
We had booked a water villa. It is a villa located on the ocean & our room opened up directly into the ocean. We had recliner chairs on the deck.
We were having our breakfast & dinners at the resort and the food was amazing. They even had vegetarian options (thank god for us).
There were soups , salads, live counters and deserts. Everything with a variety. We even had fruits like rambutan, mangosteen & passion fruit.
We did snorkeling. We weren't very comfortable since it was just the second time but it was good anyway, getting to see fishes so close to the resort. We get to see big & colourful ones too. Watching the fishes up close in the ocean with their colours against the white sand & the blue ocean amazed us. So did the corals.
We also had a bad weather day, since we are here during the monsoon.
But we enjoyed a drink at the sunset bar and did little swimming at the infinity pool.
Watching the rains on the open blue & crystal clear ocean is breathtaking.
Next was the island hopping. Its an excursion undertaken by the resort. We went to a nearby island I. e., feealei by ferry. It is an island inhabited by the locals. We get to see the maldivian culture and their way of living. They have schools, hospitals and a mosque on the island . The guide explained that schooling and health care is free. Also no weapons are allowed outside ,it is a very peaceful Muslim county. Their main livelihood is through fishing.
So we had heard about someone feeding the sharks and sting rays in the night at the jetty. We went to see that. There were about 7 mid sized and small sharks and one big sting ray with two of its babies. We watched in awe as they had their dinner.
On our anniversary day we did the most memorable thing which was a once in a lifetime experience - scuba diving. We did the resort dive . So basically u go into the ocean with the oxygen tanks under the guidance of an instructor to explore the underwater world . We went down as deep as 4 meters for 45 minutes. We saw the colorful in house coral reef of the island and an infinite number of fishes in all shapes and colors. We saw schools of fishes swimming around us, hiding in the corals or swimming behind each other playfully. It is an overwhelming experience.
The vastness of the ocean and the variety of fishes and corals made me see a new dimension to life by itself. How small we are , how little we know and also the great amount that we have yet to see came as a realization.
Also when the sky was clear in the night, the open sky revealed the infinite twinkling stars. It is a view we don't get to see in urban cities due to the lights of the city.
Soon it was time for us to leave the bliss of sun bathing on our deck in the water villa with a unrestricted view of the sea and the sky, snorkeling among fishes , watching the sun set while lighting up the sky in golden, purples, blues and pink and lastly gorging on awesome food.
We bid adieu to Maldives with the fondest memories!!
